Maya Jane Coles
More To Be Announced
Can you remember when dance music culture was all about breaking down barriers rather than building them? When it didn't matter who you were just as long as you were friendly and you could just be your self?
We can and we feel it's time to return to those inclusive ideological roots. Let's once again create memories and moments together with people we love and new people we meet in a collective experience. We want to create a place without prejudice; where people can be people to create a world whereby people feel like they belong whilst at the same time still expressing their utmost individuality and creativity of their own characters no matter what their age, race, sex, gender, ability, religion, background or sexual preference may be. It's quite simple; just have a good time whilst being nice to people and if you are horrible and aggressive to people you will be swiftly asked to leave the party.
He.She.They. will be casting it's weird and wonderful control over all 4 rooms at Ministry and we're delighted to announce our very first guests. Event headliner Maya Jane Coles is fresh from winning best producer and best album for “Take Flight” released on Maya’s own label I/AM/ME. Maya is also currently nominated for Essential Mix of the year.
Maya Jane Coles embodies all the things we look for in a talented artist. She is a resolutely independent, multi-disciplinary creative powerhouse who not only writes, produces, plays, mixes, engineers her own music but even creates the release artwork too! From winning multiple awards, touring the world’s greatest venues and festivals, supporting titans like Depeche Mode on tour to releasing mix compilations for DJ Kicks, Fabric Live, remixing The XX to Ella Fitzgerald to Bonobo, leading campaigns for Doc Martens, collaborating with Tricky, Miss Kittin and Nadine Shah, producing new talent like Chelou, working under various aliases such as Nocturnal Sunshine, or being sampled for Nicki Minaj’s mega hit ‘Truffle Butter’, Maya Jane Coles is truly at the very summit of her game and we are so delighted she said "yes" to our invitation to play.
The other act we’re announcing today is London’s own Scratcha DVA. We've been a big fan of this multi genre pioneer for many years.
Scratcha DVA’s musical background includes being involved in playing and producing Jungle, Drum and Bass, Garage, Grime, UK Funky, House and electronic music. From running his on labels DVA Music and more recently ALLYALLRECORDS, to releasing seminal albums "Pretty Ugly" and "notu uronlineu" on Hyperdub, to playing internationally to hosting his own radio show with Rinse FM; Scratcha DVA is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with.
We'll reveal our residents soon as well as more acts to be announced over the coming weeks from a range of different genres and scenes. From DJs to performers we're all about giving those who push boundaries a platform and we invite our party goers to push their own boundaries too; so feel free to dress as normally or as outrageously as you want; from pvc, latex and leather boots to your favourite black dress or pair of trainers. Just remember though you only live once... well; maybe... 🖤
